Sheffield Doc/Fest 2013 report and photos!

With 6 films screening and 3 directors present it was another busy year for us at the UK's biggest documentary film festival last week.

With sold-out out screenings of our upcoming summer releases Blackfish and The Act of Killing it was lovely to see audiences ask their questions to filmmakers Gabriela Cowperthwaite and Joshua Oppenheimer. Also previewing was our October release Muscle Shoals, and recent Dogwoof title F*ck For Forest. Meanwhile The Spirit of '45 got 4 screenings, and a whole day long event of music and film dedicated to it on Saturday at the Queen's Social Club. Dogwoof Global title The Network was also on the programme, and director Eva Orner was in town for some Q&A sessions.

From opening night fun at screenings of The Big Melt and the Puss Riot doc, Bowie skating, to Meet Market pitches and panel discussions the Dogwoof team and our signature canvas bags were to be found round every corner this year. We even hosted a drinks party at the Rutland Arms on Friday with plenty of our filmmakers in attendance.

At the awards cermony on Sunday The Act of Killing picked up the main Special Jury prize, marking the third year in a row a Dogwoof title has won the award. We also presented the inaugural Tim Hetherington Award, with Tim's Mother Judith, to The Square. F*ck For Forest also got a special mention for the Green Award for challenging convention!

Yung's highlight of the festival was The Act of Killing winning, and seeing the look on the audiences faces after they had watched Act of Killing and Blackfish, with shell-shocked looks and tears shed. Meanwhile Oli's highlights included the Skype Q&A with Katia from Pussy Riot as part of the opening night, hearing the BFI pitches, The Act of Killing winning and presenting the first Tim Hetherington Award with Judith. Gemma's highlight was the pitching events and seeing the Decision Makers skate around to David Bowie. Meanwhile Dogwoof global's Vesna enjoyed meeting our directors old and new, catching up with Lori of 112 Weddings and attending the Meetmarket and BFI film fund pitch.
