Dogwoof MIPDoc and MIPtv Report
April 17th, 2013
Last week, our international sales team were in Cannes for MIPDoc and MIPtv, selling our films to television broadcasters from across the world. MIPtv is one of the world's largest television markets, attracting key players from across the film and television industry, with over 11,000 participants. The market takes place inside Cannes’s Palais du Festival, and Dogwoof were based at the MEDIA stand, along with many other high profile European sales companies.
This is the first year that Dogwoof have attended MIP, and Vesna and Shoshana were in town pitching and selling films to as many buyers as they could fit in meetings with. Broadcasters they met with included Arte, VMMA, Canal +, ABC, SBS, Al Jazeera, AVRO, YLE to name but a few.
Blackfish was one of the biggest draws of MIPDoc, with posters from the film dominating the screening library (see pictures). Over 50 buyers screened the film. 12 other Dogwoof titles were also available for buyers to watch, and in all 250 buyers watched our films! Aside from Blackfish, our most popular films in the library were The Network and (perhaps unsurprisingly) F*ck for Forest.
This year was the 50th Anniversary of MIPTV, and the market launched with an opening party at the Martinez Hotel, the highlight of which was an enormous birthday cake and a stunning firework display.
Dogwoof were featured twice in the market's trade paper, MIPtv News. The company were profiled as exciting newcomers to the markets. Vesna was interviewed about our international sales strategies and the exciting new titles we have to offer, including The Ridge and In the Shadow of the Sun. News also broke in Realscreen and Screen International that we secured a deal for The House I Live In to play on HBO Latin America.
With back-to-back meetings, it was definitely a benefit to be somewhere with some sunshine, and any spare time amid the madness of the market was spent catching some sun on the terrace of the Palais, or relaxing in the bar along the Croissette.
Back in London, the sales team are now busy following up with buyers and putting the plans made at MIP into practice. Dogwoof will be back in Cannes next month for the film festival, so keep an eye out for more news then, and don't forget to follow us on Twitter for instant updates:
